    We currently have an opening in our Aurora, IL office for an Electrical Engineer.  This position will be responsible for performing hardware design and support tasks primarily for our helmet-mounted display product line, with the potential for some motion tracking product line interfacing.  This position reports to the Manager of Hardware & Systems Engineering.

    Responsibilities

    • Key member of interdisciplinary technical teams to design, integrate, test, and verify electronic hardware designs satisfy the needs of customer projects and product developments
    • Generate hardware requirements from system/configuration item requirements to define the scope of each hardware design and its verification method/plan.
    • Design embedded electronic controls and processing modules for 1) digital display technology utilizing a range of video format inputs (NTSC/PAL, Composite Video, SMPTE, HDMI, etc.) to drive our helmet mounted display units and 2) interfacing to analog/digital sensors, master/flight/mission control computers, and motion tracking units.
    • Integrate and test designs using a range of laboratory equipment including: hi-speed oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and power supply analyzers.
    • Generate thorough documentation and contribute to design reviews supporting and defending design decisions.
    • Critically assess technical risks and suggest mitigation plans and activities on development projects.
    • Directly interface with customer technical staff during design and integration to support successful fielding of equipment.
    • Demonstrate support for company values and vision and embrace TDSI Core Values.
    • Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Candidate MUST be a U.S. citizen.  The selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
    • B.S. in Electrical Engineering.  Advanced degree a plus.
    • 2-8+ years in embedded electronics hardware design.
    • Aerospace/defense OEM experience strongly desired.
    • Experience with some or all of the following circuitry classes:  analog sensing, digital interfaces and communication, video signaling, CPU/microcontroller, FPGA, DC/DC power supply topologies, design for EMC.
    • Experience with some or all of the following circuit and hardware simulation and analysis tools including: PSpice, Matlab/Simulink, HDL simulation.
    • Experience with rigorous qualification requirements to standards such as: MIL-STD-461 (EMI), MIL-STD-810 (environmental), and DO-160.
    • Altium Designer experience a plus.  Other tools such as Cadence OrCAD/Allegro, Mentor Graphics/DXDesigner acceptable.
    • Experience with formal Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) process and tools.
    • Experience in a formalized design and development environment utilizing a quality management system based upon AS9100, CMMI, or ISO9000.
    • Autonomous, self-starter who completes tasks with minimal supervision and technical direction.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills to accurately and concisely defend and describe designs and technical rationale.
    • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with employees in all departments and functions including Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Software Engineering.
    • Some travel is expected, 4-6 trips per year, approximately one work week (5 days) in duration, can be international.
