    Thales Defense & Security, Inc. (TDSI) seeks an experienced Motion Tracking R&D Manager to support our Motion Tracking Augmented Reality business. The R&D Manager should be a well-rounded team member who is able to work directly with customers with minimal supervision. The R&D Manager must also be able to work on a range of duties throughout the customer life cycle, i.e., design, integration, system test/verification, system troubleshooting, as well as managing a team of diverse individuals to include providing technical guidance, hiring, resource management, and performance evaluation.

     

    The Motion Tracking business is primarily located in Billerica, MA.

    Responsibilities

    • Design and development of motion tracking systems based on optical sensors, MEMS gyros and MEMS accelerometers
    • Development of algorithms based on Kalman Filters, Machine Vision, GPS, and navigation
    • Development of software based on those algorithms
    • Manage the research and development team from initial hardware/software concept development through final product release
    • Conduct analysis/test of performance
    • Develop calibration and evaluation tools/equipment
    • Develop product/development requirements
    • Provide architectural direction in software and algorithmic fields
    • Understand the Augmented Reality marketspace, its requirements and customer needs
    • Support motion tracking sustainment operations with operational customers
    • Attend and participate as subject matter expert in relevant conferences and symposia
    • Perform as an integral member of the Motion Tracking team interacting on a regular basis with inter/intra-company disciplines including engineering, contracts, programs management, manufacturing and customer service
    • Lead and/or provide technical support and expertise on proposals, bid efforts and customer interactions
    • Some domestic and international travel to support the Motion Tracking business

    • Maintain a high ethical standard of practice, including compliance with all company procedures

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's operating policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; performance appraisals, rewarding and providing for employee discipline when required; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Active mentoring and development of staff is a critical element of the supervisory responsibilities.

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Candidate MUST be U.S. citizen 
    • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance Security Clearance.
    • Masters or PhD degree in electrical engineering, computer science or equivalent technology field
    • The successful candidate will have at least 10 years operational experience in the motion tracking, computer vision or related fields
    • Experience with motion tracking integration into augmented reality devices
    • Excellent organizational skills and work ethic
    • Ability to manage development teams
    • Knowledge of software development lifecycle
    • Effective oral and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
    • Ability to work in a team environment and interact with employees in all departments and functions
    • Proficiency with one or more of the following programming languages: Simulink, Matlab, C/C++, Python
    • Experience with embedded software development is preferred
    • Expertise in the Augmented Reality market is preferred
    • Some travel (domestic and international) required
    • Experience in Simultaneous Localization & Mapping (SLAM) desired.
