    Thales Defense & Security, Inc. has an opening for a Field Application Engineer (FAE) within the Thales Visionix R&D department. This position will be responsible for creating and implementing technical solutions at the customer site, and providing customers with the technical expertise and support required to install, configure and test complex systems consisting of Thales Visionix Motion Tracking Systems’ technologies. This position will help our customers use Thales Visionix products to develop system solutions, perform demonstrations, and to train customers on the use and maintenance of our motion tracking technologies.  This position also participates in product release testing. This position is located in our Billerica MA office and reports to the Director of R&D.


    • Become proficient in the operation, installation of and maintenance of Thales Visionix products and those devices and equipment to which our products interface. Products interface host computers with various operating systems, IP networked systems, wireless systems, motion tracking products, and Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) technologies.
    • Bring the needs and desires of the customer back to the Billerica office so that we can be responsive to the customer. 
    • Become the technical connection back into the development organization
    • Help not only solve technical issues but also keep engineering, business development, and sales abreast of emerging customer requirements and technologies.
    • Be proficient with hand tools and assembly techniques, and problem-solver on the spot as well as designing and assembling support structures. 
    • Participate in the product validation and verification process; develop and execute test procedures; write test scripts and support to the engineers debugging the system and its software. 


    • A degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or a two-year degree along with three years’ experience in an associated field
    • Prior experience in system integration, networked systems, operator training
    • Ability to troubleshoot technical systems is required
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office tools
    • Working familiarity with Windows and Linux OS.’
    • US Citizenship is required, and the ability to obtain a secret security clearance is desired.
    • Willingness to travel 65% as a minimum is a must. Travel will include both domestic and  international.
    • Also, must possess excellent communication skills; and have the ability to work independently and in a team environment.


    Desired Qualifications:


    • Ability to write test scripts
    • Ability to develop test procedures
    • Experience with Matlab, C++, C
    • Prior experience with motion tracking systems or helmet/head mounted displays
