We currently have an opening in our Aurora, IL office for a Mechanical Design Engineer. This position reports to the Manager of Engineering.



  • Involved in the initial concept, design, development and management of projects or products.
  • Use CAD systems and other available tools to design, analyze and visualize projects.
  • Identify design requirements and specifications.
  • Design the aesthetics, ergonomics, materials and functionality of components suitable for its intended application.
  • Take basic part and assembly designs from higher-level engineers and undertake detail design by applying appropriate design rules to ensure design for manufacturing i.e. choosing correct fasteners, applying appropriate coatings/finishes, ensuring fastener edge distance and fastener pitch, proper edge and corner radii, pocket depths, etc.).
  • Investigate and analyze how to improve existing projects or components as required.
  • Write reports to summarize findings.
  • Undertake model making, prototyping and product testing.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure projects are delivered on time, to standard and to budget.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.


  • 2+ years mechanical design/drafting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Demonstrated expertise in the creation of engineering drawings of parts, assemblies and installations.
  • Experience working with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) applications (WindChill preferred), creation of Bills of Materials (BOMs), creation and processing of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Experience working with fundamental office-environment software (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Communication skills and ability to work with other engineers, management, non-technical personnel and interface with customers.
  • Demonstrated initiative in solving challenging problems and working several projects simultaneously.






  • Creation and refinement of mechanical parts and assemblies.
  • Knowledge of GD&T fundamentals a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in “design for manufacturing”, particularly related to machined and molded parts, fixtures, assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of environmental testing standards and procedures, coatings and other protective finishes.
  • Experience working with rapid prototyping/3D printing a plus.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, hand drills, saws, rotary tools, etc.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electronic systems a plus.
  • Experience with and knowledge of military and commercial standards and specifications.
